Event Description: Keeping Music Alive is more than a mission for Nat King Cole Generation Hope, it’s a PASSION! The entire community is invited to attend a FREE concert showcasing the talents of the students participating in the Summer Strings @ Lynn University camp program along with special performances by their directors and mentors. The concert will be performed in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center located on Lynn University’s campus at 3601 N. Military Trail in Boca Raton from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23. The event is open to the public and free parking is available behind the theater. Nat King Cole Generation Hope, Inc. Summer Strings @ Lynn University, now in its sixth year, will be held Monday, June 12 to Friday, June 16 and Monday, June 19 to Friday, June 23. The camp will host 80 string students from three Title 1 Palm Beach County elementary schools: Berkshire, Plumosa and U. B. Kinsey/Palmview. This life changing experience provides students an opportunity to receive the highest quality string instruction from Lynn Conservatory of Music graduate and undergraduate student mentors as well as School District of Palm Beach County Orchestra Directors and former Summer Strings alumni. Students receive individual, small group and large ensemble instruction that has been compared to a full year of instruction. Summer Strings is supported by The Boca West Community Charitable Foundation, The Stoltz Family and in-kind support from the School District of Palm Beach County, Lynn University, Publix, Walmart, Target and Costco. Twin daughters of music legend Nat King Cole, Timolin and Casey Cole of Boca Raton, launched Nat King Cole Generation Hope, Inc. to honor the legacy, music and life of their father Nat King Cole in 2008 after learning of budget cuts in public schools directly affecting the arts. Since that time, donations more than $1,300,000 have benefited thousands of children with “the greatest need and fewest resources” in Broward, Miami-Dade, Okeechobee and Palm Beach counties. “Our family history is one of musical excellence and charitable giving,” said Timolin. “Our father was a trailblazer in the music industry and will live forever through his style, grace and unforgettable music. Our mother Maria, also an entertainer, sang with Duke Ellington and was known for supporting multiple causes throughout her life. By giving students the opportunity to enhance their musical talents and abilities, the Cole Family Legacy lives on.” The mission of Nat King Cole Generation Hope, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is to provide music education to children with the greatest need and fewest resources by funding programs that provide for instruction, mentoring and resources.
